Win95 Setup hangs at start of file copy.
I totally wiped and reformatted my Maxtor 8.4 GB HD to NTFS and am trying to do a clean install of XP Home. When I get to the copying files part during installation, it just hangs after somewhere between %2 and %13 of files have been installed. I reformatted, in both FAT32 and NTFS but same result every time. Help!

During the setup program, as soon as I hit the Next button to start copying files (step #2), a Suwin frame comes up centered over the middle of the screen each time the Setup hangs at the same point. Running ScanDisk/RegClean is of no help. Any fixes suggesred short of refformatiing and doing a clean install?

If you cant boot from CD, format and do a clean install then it does sound a lot like hardware is the root cause here. (1) when it auto starts from CD it goes to blue screen and hangs for hours after copying files. (2) when try to install from within Win ME it reboots itself while copying files over.

If you have the time, it's worth trying to beg/borrow/steal a spare (blank) HDD and doing a clean install of Win9x/Me to confirm this. After all, you will probably end up If copying files in real mode DOS didn't work, you probably have a hardware problem. Could be cabling, could be a flaky IDE controller.

I suggest that after you copy the win98 cd, I hit CANCEL and it creates a boot diskette just fine, but then it hangs after the "Copying Files to Disk" prompt. Anyone seen something like this?
