If the install 'hangs' in the first phases, it's usually hardware related. Make sure to check "every single" device for compatibility with XP. I have a brand new copy of windows xp home. When I try to install my system freezes when Setup is copying files to the Windows installation folders.

May I also suggest that you do a clean install of Win2000. If you don't already have it, buy a copy of Ghost 2001 from the Symantec Web Site, Restarts and goes into the second phase of the upgrade ie copying files and then to the hardware detection phase where it gets about 2/3 of the way completed and hangs.
